I’m a major foodie. And these are my favorite restaurants that I’ve frequented in the past 2.5 years since I’ve been living in New York. Here’s a list of the best of the best, in my opinion. From healthy vegan spots to indulgent cuisines, I’ve got you covered.
Farmacy Kitchen
This is a newer spot that I’ve begun going to and it’s DELICIOUS. The menu is entirely vegan and the ingredients are really really healthy. Despite that, it all tastes amazing. You can barely even tell that it’s vegan. Not only do they have good food, but they also have awesome drinks. Their hot chocolate is perfect on a cold day. I love the mac and cheese, which is vegan and nut-free, the macro bowl, and the veggie burger.
Broken Coconut
This place is one of my favorites for a quick healthy stop. I always get their avocado toast in between class. They also have an amazing matcha latte made with homemade unsweetened coconut mylk. I always get my avo toast to go!
Springbone
Springbone is a go-to of mine for between classes as well. They have a selection of different bone broths, including a vegan alternative, that can have different fun ingredients added to it, like Vitamin C! I love getting the seaweed mushroom broth when I want something warm and comforting. They also have amazing bowls and delicious avocado toast made with gluten-free bread.
Jajaja
If you’re ever in New York, you need to go to Jajaja (pronounced “hahaha”). It’s a completely vegan restaurant with incredible Mexican food and delicious drinks. There’s a couple of locations in New York, and I’ve been to the ones in the West Village and Lower East Side. Anything you order will be amazing but my favorites are the rajas con crema, the turmeric cauliflower rice bowl, and the cucumber y basil cocktail!
Sant Ambroeus
This restaurant has quickly become an all-time favorite. If I’m being honest, I go at least once a week. Their SoHo location has the BEST outside seating with heaters for when it’s cold outside. Their coffee is amazing and so is their classic spaghetti pomodoro, which I get gluten-free. The Leandra salad is also incredible, and they have daily soups that are out of this world.
Carbone
Carbone is a classic. It’s pretty hard to get a reservation, so you have to book way in advance. A little tip is to go for lunch, it’s easier to get in that way! The food never disappoints and you will be rolling out of there after. They give you free garlic bread, mozzarella, and salami. And who doesn’t love free food? Their spicy vodka rigatoni is to die for so you have to order that. Everything is amazing. The meatballs, chopped salad, and branzino will have you salivating. You have to go here if you want to indulge while you’re in the city.
Nai
Nai is one of my friends and I’s favorite spots. It’s such a fun vibe, so my friend’s and I go at least once a month. They have an amazing array of Spanish tapas, from croquetas, to patatas aioli. They also have a flamenco show every Thursday and Saturday, which is a must. Just make sure when you book your reservation you say you want to sit upstairs so you can watch! PS: if it’s your birthday, they’ll invite you up to dance with them for a song!
Cosme/Atla
These restaurants are grouped together because they have the same owners and similar dishes. The food is Mexican and delicious. If you want a more casual vibe with outdoor seating, go to Atla. But if you want something a little bit fancier, hit up Cosme. They have the best guacamole I’ve ever had, and their maitake en salsa verde is INCREDIBLE.
Sugarfish
If you want good sushi, you have to go to Sugarfish. It’s definitly the best sushi I’ve had. You can choose between 3 different pre fix menus depending on how much sushi you want or order a la carte. I usually get the Trust Me. I’d recommend getting one of the set menus so you don;t have to think about ordering. Trust me, it’s so good you’ll love everything. Just make sure you’re prepared to wait. I’d recommend putting your name down and then walking around for a couple hours because the wait is never shorter than 2 hours. You can also order it on Postmates, but it’s better at the restaurant!
Those are my favorite restaurants in NYC! Let me know if you hit one up and tell me what you think!
Happy eating!
x, Isa
